LES FINANCES DE LA WATCHTOWER ET DES TÉMOINS DE JÉHOVAH
L'organisation mondiale des Témoins de Jéhovah est divisée en 8 entités juridiques distinctes installées aux Etats Unis, auxquelles sont rattachées les 110 filiales réparties dans le monde. Par exemple, la filiale de Suisse est une succursale de laWatch Tower Bible & Tract Society of Pennsylvania (New York), et le béthel de Thun (la filiale de Suisse) est inscrite au registre du commerce de l'Oberland Bernois.
Selon Newsday (www.newsday.com), la Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of New York qui est une de ces 8 entités, sans être la principale, a réalisé un revenu annuel en 2003 de 951 millions de dollars. Elle est composée de 5227 volontaires (pas des salariés) et se situe au 34ème rang du top 100 des entreprises privées de l'Etat de New York. A noter que, ce qui pèse sur les charges d'une entreprise, ce sont les salaires. Par conséquent, si il avait été possible à newsday de classer les entreprises par rapport à leur bénéfice net, la Watchtower se retrouverait dans le peloton de tête du fait qu'elle n'a pas de salariés, mais des volontaires...
En France, le rapport N° 1687 fait au nom de la commission d'enquête sur la situation financière, patrimoniale et fiscale des sectes, présidé par Monsieur Jacques GUYARD et enregistré à la présidence de l'Assemblée Nationale le 10 juin 1999, a conclu que pour ce qui est de l'organisation Française des Témoins de Jéhovah, les recettes annuelles s'élevaient (selon l'exercice) entre 170 et 200 Millions de Francs. Que l'estimation globale de l'actif se situait à environ 1 Milliard de Francs et que l'évaluation globale du patrimoine immobilier appartenant à l'organisation ou mis à sa disposition était de 860 Millions de Francs.
La Watchtower Society a été aussi propriétaire pendant quelques années (jusqu'en 2002) à hauteur de 50% de Rand Cam Engine Corp., une entreprise spécialisée dans la fabrication de moteurs pour les avions de chasse de l'armée US. Il s'agissait d'un don qu'elle avait reçu. Elle aurait pu le refuser avec délicatesse, mais comme on dit de l'autre côté de l'atlantique : "Money is Money!"
